· Higher-purity iron ores generate less slag when consumed in blast furnaces, allowing coke rates to be kept lower, while direct-charge ores such as lump and pellet also lessen the consumption of coke breeze in the sintering process. Using higher-grade iron ore feedstocks is therefore preferable for mills when coking coal prices are high.
· This is where the concept of 'green steel' comes into the picture: a phenomenon that replaces fossil fuels with renewable energy in the steelmaking supply chain. The green steel process also necessitates the use of high-grade iron ore, something which miners can achieve through practices such as beneficiation.
Although direct reduction processes can operate with pellets having an iron content of 65% or lower, typical of blast furnace (BF)-grade pellets, the preferred feed for a DR plant has an iron content of 67% or greater. The principal sources of DR-grade pellets are located in South America, Canada, Sweden, Bahrain and Iran (TABLE I). TABLE I.

These iron ore reserves are all of high quality Hematite allowing us to produce both high quality lump (64.0%Fe) and high grade sinter fines (63.5%Fe) for the domestic and export markets. We are unique in that we are primarily a principle lump producer with a product of recognized exceptional chemical and metallurgical quality.
· Demand for high-grade ore is also expected to benefit from decarbonization due to its lower impurities and the higher productivity that it offers. Impurities such as alumina and silica in ore need to be removed using coke and limestone in iron making. Iron ore …

· Sinter fines and lumps make up the bulk of the seaborne iron ore market, and are the products most frequently traded on a spot basis, so daily pricing is used for the key 62% Fe, 58% Fe and 65% Fe fines, and lump premium references. By contrast, the beneficiated ore segment - comprising pellet and concentrate - is smaller in terms of both ...

High-grade iron ore fines are used for the preparation of pellets. Iron content in the ore has got to be very high and gangue low to confirm to the quality of pellets. The content generally is 66% Fe, SiO 2 + A1 2 O 3 - 3%, Sulfur and Phosphorus 0.05% each. The sizes of the fines should be minus 100 mesh 95% minus 325 mesh 60 - 75%. Read More
· Iron formation consists of iron ore such as siderite, magnetite, and hematite, with silica in the form of chert, jasper, etc., generally in bands, but sometimes not distinctly so. The bands of iron ore are at times high-grade, but are often mixed with a good deal of silica, the whole making an ore too lean for use without concentration.
· The iron grade of a high pyrite-containing ore was determined by the new method, and the results were compared to those obtained by the traditional roasting or HNO 3 titration. The new method was found to provide iron grade values close to the roasting method. The proposed method was tested on a number of samples with known iron grades.

It almost always consists of iron oxides, the primary forms of which are magnetite (Fe 3 O 4) and hematite (Fe 2 O 3 ). Iron ore is the source of primary iron for the world's iron and steel industries. It is therefore essential for the production of steel, which in turn is essential to maintain a strong industrial base.
